Lisbon, 30 Nov 2019 – Swedish environmental activist Greta Thunberg announced today that her arrival in Lisbon is scheduled for Tuesday morning, before traveling to Madrid, the Spanish capital, to attend the summit on climate change (COP25).
“Day 18. We are on our way to Europe. The day scheduled for arrival is Tuesday morning. We will arrive at Alcântara Docks, Lisbon. We look forward to seeing you there,” said the young activist, 16, in a message on Twitter.
In a statement sent to Lusa, ZERO (Sustainable Land System Association) disclosed Greta Thunberg’s message and stated that the sailboat La Vagabonde will dock at Alcântara Docks at the end of the pontoon next to the Tagus River, near the Alcântara Maritime Station.
Upon arrival, Greta in Lisbon will be received by the president of the Lisbon Chamber of Commerce, Fernando Medina, where a press conference is expected to take place, indicated the association.
The COP25, which will take place from December 2nd to 13th, was transferred, as a matter of urgency, to Madrid on November 1st, after Chile announced that it was withdrawing from its organization, due to a social protest movement without precedent in the country.
The transfer was proposed by the head of the Spanish socialist government, Pedro Sánchez, to “guarantee” holding the meeting, despite the enormous logistical challenge that it implied: to prepare in just one month an event that will bring together 25,000 participants from about 200 countries, including diplomats, NGOs (non-governmental organizations) and scientists.

The climate change summit takes place every year in a different region of the world, this time in Latin America, after previously taking place in Eastern Europe, more precisely in Poland.
Initially, the conference was supposed to take place in Brazil, but just elected President, Jair Bolsonaro withdrew in November 2018 due to “fiscal and budgetary restrictions”, and Chile assumed the presidency of the event.
Greta Thunberg crossed the Atlantic by boat to attend a previous UN summit in New York (convened by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres last September) and at COP25 in Chile, but the unexpected change of venue forced her to embark again, this time on a catamaran, to make the trip the other way around and get to Madrid on time, without having to take a plane, and passing through Lisbon.

Clima: Ativista ambiental Greta Thunberg chega a Lisboa na manhã de terça-feira
Lisboa, 30 nov 2019 (Lusa) – A ativista ambiental sueca Greta Thunberg anunciou hoje que a sua chegada a Lisboa está prevista para a manhã de terça-feira, antes de viajar para a capital espanhola para participar na cimeira sobre as Alterações Climáticas (COP25).
“Dia 18. Estamos a caminho da Europa. O dia previsto para a chegada é terça-feira de manhã. Vamos chegar à Doca de Alcântara, Lisboa. Esperamos encontrar-vos aí!”, refere a jovem ativista, de 16 anos, em mensagem no Twitter.
Em comunicado enviado à Lusa, a ZERO (Associação Sistema Terrestre Sustentável) divulgou a mensagem de Greta Thunberg e precisou que o veleiro La Vagabonde vai atracar na Doca de Alcântara no final do pontão encostado ao Rio Tejo, junto à Gare Marítima de Alcântara.
À chegada, a jovem ativista vai ser recebida pelo presidente da Câmara de Lisboa, Fernando Medina, estando ainda prevista uma conferência de imprensa no local, indicou a associação.
A COP25, que se realiza de 02 a 13 de dezembro, foi transferida de urgência, em 01 de novembro para Madrid, depois de o Chile ter anunciado que renunciava à sua organização, devido a um movimento de contestação social sem precedentes no país.
A transferência foi proposta pelo chefe do governo socialista espanhol, Pedro Sánchez, para “garantir” a realização do encontro, apesar do enorme desafio logístico que isso implicava: preparar em apenas um mês um evento que vai reunir 25.000 participantes de cerca de 200 países, entre diplomatas, ONG (organizações não governamentais) e cientistas.

A cimeira sobre Alterações Climáticas realiza-se anualmente numa região diferente do mundo, tendo calhado desta vez à América Latina a sua organização, depois da última vez ter tido lugar no leste Europeu, mais precisamente na Polónia.
Inicialmente, a conferência deveria ter-se realizado no Brasil, mas, acabado de ser eleito Presidente, Jair Bolsonaro renunciou em novembro de 2018 à sua organização devido a “restrições fiscais e orçamentais”, tendo o Chile assumido a presidência do evento.
Greta Thunberg cruzou o Atlântico de barco para participar numa cimeira prévia da ONU em Nova Iorque (convocada pelo secretário-geral das Nações Unidas, António Guterres, em setembro passado) e na COP25 no Chile, mas a alteração inesperada do local obrigou-a a voltar a embarcar, desta vez num catamarã, para fazer a viagem ao contrário e chegar a tempo a Madrid, sem ter de apanhar um avião, e com passagem por Lisboa.
