Lisbon, 28 Nov (2019) Portugal was distinguished as the best tourist destination in the world for the third consecutive year by the World Travel Awards, in a ceremony that took place today in Muscat, Oman.
This distinction was awarded for the first time to Portugal in 2017, renewed in 2018 and again in 2019. In June, the country had already been re-elected the best Tourist Destination in Europe, also for the third consecutive year, at a ceremony held in Madeira.
“This award, for being an international award and for the third consecutive time, proves the obvious effort that has been made, both by public and private entities, so that Portugal is indeed a destination of choice when it comes to tourism”, the Secretary of State for Tourism, Rita Marques, told Lusa agency.
She went on to say: “This is a strategy that has been designed for many years – we have our 2027 Tourism Strategy, which is a document that is the result of a thorough effort on the part of all public and private partners and that points to our efforts to make Portugal the most sustainable destination in the world”.
“This is what we work for every day. Our goal is for Portugal to be recognized as the most sustainable destination in the world and this award recognizes this”, stressed the leader.
For Rita Marques, this is news that “reconfirms” that Portugal is “the best tourist destination” in the region and in the world, so she considered it “an honor” to have received this award and stressed the distinction between “the excellence of Portugal and the Portuguese”, while raising “the demand”.
These “are international awards, given by an impartial entity, recognized and with ‘expertise’ in the subject and, therefore, is, in fact, the highest recognition that we could get, because they end up being the Tourism Oscars”,
said the Secretary of State.
“These awards end up being a very important promotional action for us because the competition was great, they are very coveted prizes, all countries do their best and it’s good to see that our best is really the best of all”, said the leader.
Besides Portugal, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dubai, Greece, India, Indonesia, Jamaica, Kenya, Malaysia, Maldives, Mauritius, Morocco, New Zealand, Rwanda, South Africa, Spain, Sri Lanka, United States, and Vietnam were nominated for this award.
The Tourism of Portugal was also distinguished, for the third consecutive year, as the “Best Official Tourism Organization in the World” in the World Travel Awards, announced the entity.

“The fact that it is the third consecutive year that the National Tourism Authority is distinguished as the ‘Best in the World’ is nothing more than recognition of the success of the Tourism Strategy 2027 and the commitment of this body to the pursuit of the objectives set by it,” said the president of Tourism Portugal, Luís Araújo, quoted in a statement.
“Above all, congratulations are due to all the employees of Turismo de Portugal for knowing how to lead the tourism of the future and rise to the challenge of affirming Portugal as a tourist destination of excellence,” he added.

Lisboa, 28 nov (2019) (Lusa) – Portugal foi distinguido como melhor destino turístico do mundo pelo terceiro ano consecutivo pelos World Travel Awards, numa cerimónia que se realizou hoje em Mascate, Omã.
Esta distinção foi atribuída pela primeira vez a Portugal em 2017, renovada em 2018 e, novamente, em 2019, sendo que já em junho, o país tinha sido reeleito o melhor Destino Turístico da Europa também pelo terceiro ano consecutivo, na ocasião numa cerimónia que decorreu na Madeira.
“Este prémio, pelo facto de ser um prémio internacional e pela terceira vez consecutiva, prova o esforço evidente que tem sido feito, quer pelas entidades públicas, quer pelas entidades privadas, para que Portugal seja de facto um destino de eleição no que toca ao turismo”, disse à agência Lusa a secretária de Estado do Turismo, Rita Marques.
E prosseguiu: “Esta é uma estratégia que tem vindo a ser desenhada há largos anos – nós temos a nossa Estratégia Turismo 2027 que é um documento que resultou de um esforço aturado por parte de todos os parceiros públicos e privados e que aponta para que os nossos esforços sejam no sentido de Portugal ser o destino mais sustentável do mundo”.
“É para isso que trabalhamos todos os dias. O nosso objetivo é que Portugal seja reconhecido como o destino mais sustentável do mundo e este prémio vem reconhecer isto mesmo”, salientou a governante.
Para Rita Marques trata-se de uma notícia que “volta a confirmar” que Portugal é “o melhor destino turístico” regional e mundial, pelo que considerou que “é uma honra” ter recebido este prémio e frisou distinguir a “excelência de Portugal e dos portugueses”, elevando simultaneamente “a exigência”.
Estes “são prémios internacionais, dados por uma entidade isenta, reconhecida e com ‘expertise’ no tema e, portanto, é de facto o reconhecimento mais elevado que podíamos obter, pois acabam por ser os Óscares do Turismo”, disse ainda a secretária de Estado.
“Estes prémios acabam por ser uma ação promocional muito importante para nós, porque a concorrência era grande, são prémios muito cobiçados, todos os países fazem o seu melhor e é bom ver que realmente o nosso melhor é de facto o melhor de todos”, sublinhou a governante.
Além de Portugal, estavam nomeados para este prémio o Brasil, Colômbia, Costa Rica, Dubai, Grécia, Índia, Indonésia, Jamaica, Quénia, Malásia, Maldivas, Maurícias, Marrocos, Nova Zelândia, Ruanda, áfrica do Sul, Espanha, Sri Lanka, Estados Unidos e o Vietname.
O Turismo de Portugal foi também distinguido, pelo terceiro ano consecutivo, como o “Melhor Organismo Oficial de Turismo do Mundo” nos World Travel Awards, anunciou a entidade.

“O facto de ser o terceiro ano consecutivo que a Autoridade Turística Nacional é distinguida como a ‘Melhor do Mundo’ não é mais do que o reconhecimento do sucesso da Estratégia Turismo 2027 e do compromisso deste organismo com a persecução dos objetivos por ela definidos”, afirma o presidente do Turismo de Portugal, Luís Araújo, citado em comunicado.
“Acima de tudo, estão de parabéns todos os colaboradores do Turismo de Portugal por saberem liderar o turismo do futuro e mostrarem-se à altura deste desafio que é afirmar Portugal como destino turístico de excelência”, acrescentou o responsável.
