Lisbon, Oct 14, 2021 (Lusa) – PAN today considered a “very important victory” for the party the increase, from 12 to 16 years, of the minimum age to attend a bullfight in Portugal, indicating that it resulted from the negotiation of the State Budget.
“We welcome this very important victory for PAN, which, after several claims, sees its concern recognized, assisting the government to take this civilizational step to protect our children and young people, avoiding exposing them to the violence of bullfighting, as the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child had already warned,” said spokeswoman Inês de Sousa Real.
In a statement sent to journalists, the leader of People-Animals-Nature, welcomed “the fact that the Government has finally fulfilled the agreement that was established with the PAN”, pointing out that this measure decided today in the Council of Ministers, “results from the negotiations of the Parliamentary Group of PAN – People-Animals-Nature with the Government in the context of the State Budget” of 2021.
Inês de Sousa Real noted that “the presence in bullfighting shows is now only for people over 16 years old, similar to what happens for the access and exercise of the activities of bullfighting artist and bullfighting show auxiliary”, stressing that “finally the Portuguese State protects children and young people from bullfighting violence”.
“This is a step of enormous importance, considering the number of complaints we receive that indicate the presence of minors in bullfights, minors who not only witness violence against animals but also suffer countless injuries that occur during this activity,” she also advocated.
Inês de Sousa Real also stressed in the statement that the PAN “will continue to advocate” the abolition of bullfights.
In an interview published last week in Jornal de Negócios, the PAN spokeswoman said that the party would “never” approve or approve a State Budget if this measure is not fulfilled”, indicating that “the Government has committed itself to end the entry of children under 16 in bullfighting shows”.
On Tuesday, Sousa Real said that the party’s vote on the State Budget for 2022 is “open”, warning of a “greater implementation” of the measures included in this year’s proposal.
The minimum age to attend a bullfight in Portugal will increase from 12 to 16 years, decided today by the Council of Ministers.
“This measure follows the report of the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child of September 27, 2019, which advocates raising the minimum age to attend bullfighting shows in Portugal,” the government explained in the statement with the decisions taken this Thursday by the Council of Ministers.
The 16 years are also the minimum age for “access and exercise of the activities of bullfighting artists and bullfighting show assistants,” the government added in the statement.

PAN reclama “importantíssima vitória” no aumento da idade mínima para assistir a touradas
Lisboa, 14 out 2021 (Lusa) – O PAN considerou hoje uma “importantíssima vitória” do partido o aumento, de 12 para 16 anos, da idade mínima para assistir a uma tourada em Portugal, indicando que resultou da negociação do Orçamento do Estado.
“Congratulamo-nos com esta importantíssima vitória do PAN que, após diversas reivindicações, vê assim reconhecida a sua preocupação, assistindo ao Governo a dar este passo civilizacional no sentido de proteger as nossas crianças e jovens, evitando expô-las à violência da tauromaquia, tal como já tinha alertado o Comité dos Direitos das Crianças da ONU”, afirmou a porta-voz, Inês de Sousa Real.
Num comunicado enviado aos jornalistas, a líder do Pessoas-Animais-Natureza, congratulou-se “pelo facto de o Governo ter cumprido finalmente com o acordo que ficou estabelecido com o PAN”, apontando que esta medida decidida hoje em Conselho de Ministros, “decorre das negociações do Grupo Parlamentar do PAN – Pessoas-Animais-Natureza com o Governo no âmbito do Orçamento do Estado” de 2021.
Inês de Sousa Real notou que “a presença em espetáculos tauromáquicos passa, assim, a ser apenas para maiores de 16 anos, à semelhança do que acontece para o acesso e exercício das atividades de artista tauromáquico e de auxiliar de espetáculo tauromáquico”, salientando que “finalmente o Estado português protege as crianças e jovens da violência da tauromaquia”.
“Este é um passo revestido de uma enorme importância, tendo em conta a quantidade de denúncias que recebemos que indicam a presença de menores em praças de touros, menores que não só assistem à violência contra os animais como também sofrem inúmeros ferimentos que ocorrem durante esta atividade”, advogou também.
Inês de Sousa Real frisou ainda, no comunicado, que o PAN “continuará a defender” a abolição das touradas.
Em entrevista ao Jornal de Negócios, publicada na semana passada, a porta-voz do PAN tinha dito que “jamais” o partido iria “aprovar ou viabilizar um Orçamento do Estado na generalidade se não estiver cumprida esta medida”, indicando que “o Governo comprometeu-se com o fim da entrada dos menores de 16 anos nos espetáculos tauromáquicos”.
Na terça-feira, Sousa Real adiantou que o sentido de voto do partido na generalidade para o Orçamento do Estado para 2022 está “em aberto”, advertindo para uma “maior execução” das medidas inscritas na proposta deste ano.
A idade mínima para assistir a uma tourada em Portugal vai passar de 12 para 16 anos, decidiu hoje o Conselho de Ministros.
“Esta medida surge na sequência do relatório do Comité dos Direitos da Criança das Nações Unidas de 27 de setembro de 2019, que defende o aumento da idade mínima para assistir a espetáculos tauromáquicos em Portugal”, explicou o Governo no comunicado com as decisões tomadas esta quinta-feira pelo Conselho de Ministros.
Os 16 anos são também a idade mínima para “o acesso e exercício das atividades de artista tauromáquico e de auxiliar de espetáculo tauromáquico”, acrescentou o Governo no comunicado.
