10 Oct 2021 (Lusa) – Former footballer Rui Costa, 49, was elected the 34th president in the history of Benfica, winning Friday’s early elections for the bodies of the club, with 84.48% of the votes.
The official announcement was made today by the president of the General Assembly, António Pires de Andrade, after the electoral act with the most voters ever (40,085), against the 38,102 that elected Luís Filipe Vieira in 2020.
Rui Manuel César Costa, elected for the 2021/2025 four-year term, beat Francisco Benitez, leader of the Servir o Benfica movement, who got 12.24% of the votes.
Luís Filipe Vieira, who had run the club since 2003, suspended his duties in July, following the ‘Red Card’ operation, being replaced in the position by then vice-president Rui Costa.

Redação, 10 out 2021 (Lusa) – O ex-futebolista Rui Costa, de 49 anos, foi eleito o 34.º presidente da história do Benfica, ao vencer as eleições antecipadas de sexta-feira para os corpos sociais do clube, com 84,48% dos votos.
O anunciou oficial foi feito hoje pelo presidente da mesa da Assembleia-Geral, António Pires de Andrade, após o ato eleitoral com mais votantes de sempre (40.085), contra os 38.102 que elegeram Luís Filipe Vieira em 2020.
Rui Manuel César Costa, eleito para o quadriénio 2021/2025, bateu Francisco Benitez, líder do movimento Servir o Benfica, que teve 12,24% dos votos.
Luís Filipe Vieira, que comandava o clube desde 2003, suspendeu funções em julho, na sequência da operação ‘Cartão Vermelho’, sendo substituído no cargo pelo então vice-presidente Rui Costa.
