Lisbon, Nov 29, 2019 – Thousands of activists, mostly young people, are protesting on the streets of Lisbon to demand government measures to protect the planet, stressing that it is already known what “the solutions are, but the actions are missing”.
The demonstrators in Lisbon are associating themselves with another Global Climate Strike in defense of the planet, which is taking place in cities around the world.
They are almost all young and come from schools, from primary to higher education, but there are also older activists, like Deolinda Peralta.
At 67, Deolinda once again exchanged the comfort of her home for the streets of Lisbon to demand measures, carrying on her back a gigantic white cloth with a message: “We have the solutions. The actions are missing”.

The message is not her own. “It was at my granddaughter’s school that they invented”, she told Lusa, regretting that her granddaughter, an 8th grader, did not take part in today’s protest.
“The schools should be on the front line, but they are not. These are some of the students who put themselves at the head of the schools. But many are afraid of missing classes,” she said, considering that the problem that is currently being discussed on the streets is much more important than any arithmetic class.
Today’s demonstration is the fourth in Portugal and the one with the fewest participants in Lisbon.
But for the organization that doesn’t seem to be a problem. Beatriz Farelo, a 20-year-old girl who is doing Erasmus in the Czech Republic, was organizing today’s video call protest. She postponed the trip home to be present and told Lusa that today’s big mission is to mobilize people for the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP25), which starts on Monday in Madrid.
However, she left the appeal: “Don’t stay at home!”.
It’s the environmental movement that never fails. Lusa spoke with activists from the movement A TERRA, which was born last year to contest the construction of the Montijo airport.
It was precisely at that time that environmentalist Anne Faucnet left France for Portugal. Since then she lives in Lisbon and takes part in all the protests.
Today she was no exception and brought Yaku, her “activist dog”. Both were wearing a t-shirt with a plane and a prohibited sign on top. Anne says she’ll go out on the streets every time she needs to until she knows they get their message across No to the construction of a new airport and the destruction of biodiversity.
The demonstrators will end their protest in front of the parliament.

Clima: Milhares e jovens protestam nas ruas de Lisboa em defesa do planeta
Lisboa, 29 nov 2019 (Lusa) – Milhares de ativistas, na maioria jovens, estão a protestar nas ruas de Lisboa para exigir medidas do governo que protejam o planeta, sublinhando que já se sabe quais são “as soluções, mas faltam as ações”.
Os manifestantes em Lisboa associam-se a mais uma Greve Climática Global em defesa do planeta, que se está a realizar em cidades de todo o mundo.
São quase todos jovens e vêm de escolas, desde o ensino básico ao superior, mas também há ativistas mais velhos, como Deolinda Peralta.
Aos 67 anos, Deolinda voltou a trocar o conforto de sua casa pelas ruas de Lisboa para exigir medidas, trazendo nas costas um gigantesco pano branco com uma mensagem: “Temos as soluções. Faltam as ações”.

A mensagem não é de sua autoria. “Foi na escola da minha neta que inventaram”, contou à Lusa, lamentando que a neta, aluna do 8.º ano, não tenha participado no protesto de hoje.
“As escolas deviam estar na linha da frente, mas não estão. São alguns alunos que se colocam à frente das escolas. Mas muitos têm medo de faltar as aulas”, disse, considerando que o problema que hoje se discute nas ruas é muito mais importante que qualquer aula de aritmética.
A manifestação de hoje é a quarta que se realiza em Portugal e é a que tem menos participantes em Lisboa.
Mas para a organização esse não parece ser um problema. Beatriz Farelo, uma jovem de 20 anos que está a fazer Erasmus na República Checa, esteve a organizar do protesto de hoje por videochamada. Antecipou a viagem de regresso a casa para poder estar presente e contou à Lusa que a grande missão de hoje é conseguir mobilizar gente para a Conferência das Nações Unidas sobre Alterações Climáticas (COP25), que começa na segunda-feira em Madrid.
No entanto deixou o apelo: “Não fiquem em casa!”.
Quem nunca falha são os movimentos ambientalistas. A Lusa falou com ativistas do movimento A TERRA, que nasceu no ano passado para contestar a construção do aeroporto do Montijo.
Foi precisamente nessa altura que a ambientalista Anne Faucnet trocou França por Portugal. Desde então vive em Lisboa e participa em todos os protestos.
Hoje não foi exceção e trouxe Yaku, o seu “cão ativista”. Ambos traziam uma t-shirt com um avião e um sinal de proibido por cima. Anne diz que irá sair à rua todas as vezes que forem precisas até saber que conseguiram passar a sua mensagem: Não à construção de um novo aeroporto e à destruição da biodiversidade.
Os manifestantes vão terminar o protesto em frente ao parlamento.
