It’s the shortest bike race in the world. The “Glory Climb” is a century-old cycling race in Lisbon, Portugal. With 265 meters and a slope of 17%, the Gloria sidewalk is part of the Portuguese professional cycling competition. Contested since 1910, and officially made in 1913, “Glory climb” racecourse still the same without changes.
The “Calçada do Elevador da Glória” (Cobblestone of the Gloria lift) is a ramp that connects the “Baixa de Lisboa (Praça dos Restauradores)” to the “Bairro Alto (Jardim de São Pedro de Alcântara),” and it’s used by thousands of tourists and residents every day.
The tradition was recovered in 2013 by the Municipality of Lisbon, and it’s part of the Portuguese official cycling calendar.
On the side of the official competition, the race is also open to many amateurs and enthusiasts who want to try their chance or simply showing their imagination and abilities on their bike.
In the first official edition of the Glory Climbing, in 1913, Alfredo Piedade was the winner with 1 minute and 05 seconds to complete the breathtaking 265 meters of the Glory Sidewalk.
In the “new era” of this competition, Ricardo Marinheiro established a new record for the race in 2015, by spending only 35.59 seconds on the dizzying ramp. He was also the winner of the 2013, 2014 and 2015 editions. The triple winner became known as the “Torpedo da Glória.”

Tiago Simões, 44.49 seconds, and Marta Branco, 1.01.38 were the men and women winners of this year climbing race, repeating last year’s triumphs. Tiago Simões best time was 37.09 seconds on the first knockout round, but far from bringing down Ricardo Marinheiro’s fabulous record.

Subida à Gloria: A prova de ciclismo mais curta do mundo
É a corrida de ciclismo mais curta do mundo. A “Subida à Gloria” é uma prova centenária de ciclismo que se realiza em Lisboa, Portugal. Com 265 metros e uma inclinação de 17%, a prova do passeio da Glória faz parte do ciclismo profissional português. Disputada desde 1910, e oficializada em 1913, o traçado da “subida à Gloria” continua igual e sem alterações.

Na “nova era” desta competição, Ricardo Marinheiro estabeleceu um novo recorde na corrida de 2015, ao percorrer apenas em 35,59 segundos a vertiginosa rampa. Ele também foi o vencedor das edições de 2013, 2014 e 2015, e o triplo vencedor ficou conhecido como o “Torpedo da Glória”.
