The Regional Secretary for Energy, Environment and Tourism said it was “a great pride” the Azores nominated as the best diving destination in the world at the World Travel Awards 2019.
“Being nominated as the best destination in the world for diving is a great pride, its an excellent position considering our competitors in this attraction. Diving is increasingly sought in practically all the islands of the archipelago,” said Marta Guerreiro. She added “Diving is defined as a priority tourism product in the Strategic and Marketing Plan for Tourism in the Azores, and our entrepreneurs have been able to grow this activity with the utmost responsibility”, stressed the Regional Secretary, adding
“the extraordinary evolution that the tourism sector has seen in recent years has been accompanied, consequently, by the growth of tourism activities, with 167 companies currently registered in the maritime-tourism sector throughout the region”. She added.
According to the official, “this nomination proves, once again, the importance that the Azores has internationally in the tourism sector”.
“Important award nominations like this that the strategy we have been pursuing is on the right track, already with great recognition, showing that today, our tourist destination has a much stronger identity than in the past”, underlined Marta Guerreiro.

The Azores are named along with Bora Bora (French Polynesia), Cayman Islands, Fiji, Galapagos, Great Barrier Reef (Australia), Maldives, Mexico the Philippines
The final gala of the 2019 World Travel Awards will take place on November 26 in Muscat, Oman, where the winners will be announced.

Açores destino do para nos World Travel Awards 2019
A Secretária Regional da Energia, Ambiente e Turismo afirmou ser “um grande orgulho” a nomeação dos Açores para melhor destino do mundo para mergulho, nos World Travel Awards 2019.
“Estarmos nomeados como melhor destino do mundo para mergulho é um grande orgulho, já que evidencia, face aos nossos concorrentes, um posicionamento de excelência neste tipo de produto, cada vez mais procurado em praticamente todas as ilhas do arquipélago”, salientou Marta Guerreiro.
“O mergulho é definido como um produto prioritário no Plano Estratégico e de Marketing do Turismo dos Açores e os nossos empresários têm sabido fazer crescer esta atividade com o máximo de responsabilidade”, frisou a Secretária Regional, acrescentando que “a evolução extraordinária que o setor do turismo tem registado nos últimos anos foi acompanhada, consequentemente, pelo crescimento de atividades turísticas, registando-se atualmente 167 empresas no setor marítimo-turístico em toda a Região”.
Segundo a governante, “este destaque vem comprovar, uma vez mais, a importância que os Açores têm a nível internacional no setor do turismo”.
“São nomeações para prémios tão importantes como estes que nos mostram que a estratégia que temos levado a cabo está num caminho certo, já com grande reconhecimento, mostrando que, hoje, o nosso destino turístico tem uma identidade muito mais fortalecida que no passado”, sublinhou Marta Guerreiro.
Os Açores estão nomeados juntamente com Bora Bora (Polinésia Francesa), Ilhas Cayman, Fiji, Galápagos, Grande Barreira de Coral (Austrália), Maldivas, México e Filipinas.
A gala final dos World Travel Awards 2019 realiza-se a 26 de novembro, em Mascate, Omã, onde serão divulgados os vencedores.
