Unlike your typical sports bar environment with mostly guys, lots of TV’s and a limited food menu, Village Bar & Grill feels more like a neighborhood restaurant and bar where friends and families feel at home.

The restaurant and bar menus reflect the neighborhood’s diversity and go beyond your typical sports bar. In addition to traditional American fare, they also have Portuguese, Brazilian and Italian dishes.

This past Saturday, June 29th, Village Bar & Grill in Everett, MA celebrated its two year anniversary with Vanessa Salvucci, a well-known local singer, songwriter, and DJ who delighted the large crowd attending the celebration.

We had an opportunity to speak with the hands-on owners, João Lopes, from Cascais, Portugal, and his wife Doroteia Larentis Lopes, from Southern Brazil. They can both be seen in the restaurant on a daily basis greeting and serving customers at the bar or at the tables.

“We have a flame-grilled Portuguese Chouriço appetizer. We bring it to the table in a clay dish with flames coming out of it.,”  said Joāo. He continued saying: “in the beginning, many of our customers were surprised to see it. Now they are already accustomed, but it’s still a popular attraction.”

Some of the available dinners include “Polvo Lagareiro” a grilled octopus dish, “Carne de Porco Alentejana” pork and clams with fried potatoes, various “Bacalhau” codfish dishes, “Pasteis de Bacalhau “ codfish cakes, “Ameijoas a Bolhão Pato” littlenecks in a garlic, wine, and olive oil broth, “Village Prego Sandwich ” a marinated steak sandwich on a bulkie roll, “Picanha na Tabua” a grilled steak with onions, and “Dobrada” a tripe stew,

The Village usually features live music on Fridays and Saturdays, “We have some very popular theme nights throughout the year” said João. He went on to say: “our customers love the events, and it’s not uncommon to see them get up and dance.”

Village Bar & Grill is located in a former warehouse with exposed beams and hanging light bulbs. The dining area has a large mural with scenes of historic Everett. A long bar stretches along one of the walls and the wall facing the street features large windows and has a pool table and a foosball table.

Being in the “Fermentation District of Everett” it’s not surprising that Village Bar & Grill has an impressive selection of craft beers on hand in addition to those brewed in the neighborhood. “We usually have over 40 varieties of beers and rotate beers weekly,” said Joāo.

In addition to beer, you can also get one of their popular “Caipirinha” drinks or choose from a selection of other cocktails or wines, and at the end, you can enjoy a fine Novo Dia espresso coffee.

Village Bar & Grill 2nd Anniversary Celebration!

The bottom line is, what are you waiting for? Get some of your friends and head down to the “Village” in Everett. We are confident that you will return.
