Known worldwide as the iconic Queen of Pop, 60-year-old Madonna, just released her album, “Madame X,” and denied rumors she is leaving Portugal, her home since 2017.

Her “Madame X” album, released on June 14, 2019, was influenced creatively by Madonna’s life while in Portugal during the past years.

Madonna made Portugal her home when David Banda, one of four children she adopted from Malawi, enrolled at the Benfica’s youth soccer academy.

Madonna then purchased an 18th-century mansion in Sintra, located about 17 miles from Lisbon, the Portuguese capital.

In her new album, Madonna sings in Portuguese, Spanish, and English. Her latest work reflects the multicultural influences she experienced while living in Lisbon.

The city of Lisbon has enjoyed a cultural renaissance in recent years and is regarded by many as a refreshing, innovative, and affordable destination.

“Batuka,” one of the songs in the album, features Madonna singing along with a “batucadeira” group of  Cape Verdean singers and percussionists. The “batuque,” as it’s called, is a powerful musical expression of resistance and adaptation to new times.

Madonna found inspiration for the album at a small Lisbon bar she discovered in the Alfama district of Lisbon. Her current work reflects Lisbon’s melting pot of cultures, musicians, musical styles, and artists.

“Madame X” features 15 new songs and celebrates Madonna’s career-long fascination with Latin music and culture and other global influences.

The album was recorded in Portugal, London, New York, and Los Angeles and took over 18 months to complete.

“Lisbon is where my record was born,” Madonna says.
