The feast of the Holy Spirit, the third person of the Holy Trinity, is a very popular feast celebrated in Lowell. Most participants, but not all, are from the Azores archipelago, a group of islands in the middle of the Atlantic ocean.
Dinner consisted of the famous Soup of the Holy Spirit (This soup uses simple ingredients commonly used in Portuguese cuisine and makes a hearty meal) and a jar of vinho tinto. Also served was a Portuguese cozido which was followed by an alcatra in a traditional clay pot. For desert, trays of pão doce and the traditional arroz doce were placed on each table.
To end a magnificent evening everyone was treated to the sounds of traditional Azorean folk songs by various singers and musicians who delighted the audience.
