Lisbon, 01 Jul 2019 (Lusa) – Portuguese director and producer Abi Feijó has been invited to join the United States Academy of Cinema, which awards the Oscars awards annually.
The name of Abi Feijó appears in the list of 849 new members, from 54 countries, released by the American Academy, who invited them, and who will have voting power in the choice of winners.
With the entry of new members, the Hollywood academy aims to make the association more diverse and representative, specifying that of the total new members this year, 50 percent are women and 29 percent are “people of color”.

Abi Feijó was born in Braga in 1956, graduated in Graphic Arts and Design from the Superior School of Fine Arts in Porto, where he founded his first animated film studio, Filmógrafo.
Previously, he studied at the Office National du Film du Canada, under the guidance of Pierre Hébert, where he made his first film, “Oh Calm” (1985).
In 2000 he created the Casa da Animação, a cultural center dedicated to the Cinema of Animation, in Porto, and later the production studio Ciclope Filmes.
After his debut in filmmaking, he also directed short films “The Night Out on the Street” (1988), “Os Salteadores” (1993) – one of his most awarded films – “Fado Lusitano” (1994) and “Clandestino”.

Lisboa, 01 jul 2019 (Lusa) – O realizador e produtor português Abi Feijó foi convidado a integrar a Academia de Cinema dos Estados Unidos, que atribui anualmente os prémios Óscares.
O nome de Abi Feijó surge na lista de 849 novos membros, de 54 países, divulgada hoje pela academia norte-americana, que os convidou, e que terão poder de voto na escolha dos premiados.
Com a entrada de novos membros, tem a academia de Hollywood o objetivo de tornar a associação mais diversa e representativa, especificando que, do total de novos membros, este ano, 50 por cento são mulheres e 29 por cento são “pessoas de cor”.
Abi Feijó nasceu em Braga em 1956, é licenciado em Arte Gráfica e Design, pela Escola Superior de Belas Artes do Porto, cidade onde fundou o seu primeiro estúdio de cinema de animação, Filmógrafo.
Antes, fez um estágio no Office National du Film du Canada, sob a orientação de Pierre Hébert, onde realizou o seu primeiro filme, “Oh que Calma” (1985).
Em 2000 criou a Casa da Animação, centro cultural dedicado ao Cinema de Animação, no Porto, e, mais tarde, a produtora Ciclope Filmes.

Depois da estreia na realização, dirigiu ainda as curtas “A noite saiu à rua” (1988), “Os Salteadores” (1993) — um dos seus filmes mais premiados — “Fado Lusitano (1994) e “Clandestino” (2000).
Com Regina Pessoa, que entrou para a academia de Hollywood no ano passado, fez “Estrelas de Natal”, em 1998, e, com Daniela Duarte, “Nossa Senhora da Apresentação”, em 2016.
