The signing of a Protocol of Cooperation between Camões, IP, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brazil (MRE), and the International School took place today, December 5th, 2018, at 4:00 pm (Lisbon time) in New York (UNIS), for the implementation of extracurricular Portuguese classes at this School in New York.
The signing took place in the Office of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in the presence of the Secretary-General, António Guterres, at the organization’s headquarters. The President of Camões, Ambassador Luís Faro Ramos, represented by Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Francisco Duarte Lopes, and for Brazil signed by the Cooperation Protocol Ambassador, and for UNIS, Executive Director Dr. Dan Brenner.
As a result of the commitment of Camões, IP, of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through the Mission of Portugal to the United Nations and Brazil, for its Permanent Mission to the United Nations, a partnership is initiated between the two countries for the first time in teaching of Portuguese, in this School, starting as extracurricular and with a mission to future integration of Portuguese in the curriculum of the School, along with eight other languages, where the official languages of the United Nations are counted.
The protocol now signed allows the provision of Portuguese classes to more than two dozen interested in learning the language at the various levels of proficiency, to the children of diplomats, United Nations officials and other international students. The classes will be taught by a teacher of the Camões, I.P. network, in collaboration with a teacher nominated by Brazil who will follow the prpgression of teaching-learning process on a regular basis. The cooperation established in this protocol will be accompanied by the Coordinator of Portuguese Teaching in the USA, Dr. João Caixinha.
The United Nations International School (UNIS) is an international school in New York City, established in 1947 by families working for the United Nations. The school was founded to provide an international education, preserving the diverse cultural heritages of its students. Today, UNIS has more than 1,600 students in two locations, serving the United Nations, international and New York communities. The School is led by a Board of Trustees, who is responsible for fulfilling the UNIS mission and for policies related to the conduct and management of school affairs. The Council is appointed by the Secretary-General of the United Nations and is composed of 18 members.

Teve lugar hoje, dia 5 de dezembro de 2018, às 16 horas (21h de Lisboa) em Nova Iorque, a assinatura de um Protocolo de Cooperação entre o Camões, I.P., o Ministério das Relações Exteriores do Brasil (MRE) e a Escola Internacional das Nações Unidas (UNIS), para a implementação de aulas de português extracurricular nessa Escola em Nova Iorque.
A assinatura teve lugar no Gabinete do Secretário-Geral das Nações Unidas, com a presença do Secretário-Geral, António Guterres, na sede da Organização. O Presidente do Camões, Embaixador Luís Faro Ramos, foi representado pelo Representante Permanente junto das Nações Unidas, Embaixador Francisco Duarte Lopes, pelo Brasil assinou o Protocolo de Cooperação o Embaixador Mauro Vieira e, pela UNIS, o Dr. Dan Brenner, Diretor Executivo.
Resultado do empenho do Camões, I.P., do Ministério dos Negócios Estrangeiros, através da Missão de Portugal junto das Nações Unidas e do Brasil, pela sua Missão Permanente junto da ONU, é iniciada uma parceria entre os dois países, pela primeira vez, no ensino do português, nesta Escola, iniciando-se como extracurricular e tendo em vista a integração futura do português no currículo da Escola, junto com oito outras línguas, onde se contam as línguas oficiais das Nações Unidas.
O Protocolo agora assinado permite a oferta de aulas de português a mais de duas dezenas de interessados em aprender a língua, nos diversos níveis de proficiência, a filhos de diplomatas, funcionários das Nações Unidas e outros alunos internacionais. As aulas serão lecionadas por um docente da rede do Camões, I.P., em colaboração com um professor indicado pelo Brasil que acompanhará a evolução do processo ensino-aprendizagem regularmente. A cooperação estabelecida neste protocolo será acompanhada pelo Coordenador do Ensino de Português nos EUA, Dr. João Caixinha.
A Escola Internacional das Nações Unidas (UNIS) é uma escola internacional na cidade de Nova Iorque, estabelecida em 1947 por famílias que trabalhavam para as Nações Unidas. A escola foi fundada para fornecer uma educação internacional, preservando as diversas heranças culturais de seus alunos. Hoje, a UNIS tem mais de 1600 estudantes em dois locais, atendendo as comunidades das Nações Unidas, internacionais e de Nova Iorque. A Escola é dirigida por um Conselho de Curadores, que é responsável pelo cumprimento da missão da UNIS e pelas políticas relacionadas à conduta e gestão dos assuntos da escola.
