City of Boston

The “Month of Portugal” in the USA is an initiative of the Embassy of Portugal in Washington, D.C. to celebrate Portugal, a 900-year young country, the Portuguese American communities residing in various states across the US and the long-standing friendship between both countries.

The ambassador of Portugal in the US, Mr. Domingos Fezas Vital, proudly announced that this year’s celebrations “will take place in 11 states and 55 cites throughout the United States” where an estimated 1.5 million people of Portuguese descent live.

Portugal, in 1791, was the first neutral nation to recognize the independence of the United States. The June 2018 Month of Portugal events will serve to showcase Portuguese culture and traditions and to promote a closer relationship between the two countries.

June 2018 is a special time for the Luso-American community residing in the US. The president of Portugal, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa,  the Prime Minister of Portugal, António Costa and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Augusto Santos Silva, will be visiting Portuguese communities in both the East and West Coasts.

A list of scheduled events follows:
