If you are a rib lover, you shouldn’t have missed this event!

On October 1st, the East Cambridge Business Association just held their 8th annual Rib Festival (ECBA RIBFEST ’17) in Cambridge, MA. With excellent weather for the outdoor BBQ, thousands of food lovers walked on Cambridge Street to have fun, enjoy the music and taste the best ribs in the city.  The festival was perfect for all ages with live music and fun games. This year’s chosen bands were Monday Night Bluegrass Band, Muddy Ruckus, Vapors of Morphine, The Silks. The kids could also enjoy fun games with The East End House.

East Cambridge is well known for the diversity of ethnic restaurants, and they had once again, the opportunity to participate and compete among themselves in this gastronomic specialty. With plenty of food to please everyone tastes, people could choose from a variety of samplers and cast their votes for the best ribs on the category of People’s Choice. The other category of this competition was the judge’s blind taste, composed by the judges, Henry Santoro – host anchor WGBH News 89.7FM, Ton Maws – Craigie On Main and The Kirkland Tap & Trotter, Mark Roopenian – Divco West, and Paul O’Connell – Former Chef-Owner of Chez Henri.

This year’s results for the best ribs:
People’s Choice winners:
1st place – Lone Star Taco Bar Cambridge
2nd Place – Cambridge Rindge and Latin School Culinary Students
3rd Place – Catalyst Restaurant

Judges’ blind taste winners:
1st Place – Bambara
2nd Place – Portugalia Restaurant & Bar
2nd Place – Cambridge Rindge and Latin School Culinary Students

East Cambridge neighborhood has strong roots in the Portuguese community, where we can find the Portuguese Church of Saint Anthony, many Portuguese restaurants, clubs, associations and small businesses.  It was not surprising to see the participation of the Portuguese restaurant & bar Portugalia and Filarmonica Santo Antonio, one of the Portuguese associations. This event was also sponsored by Naveo Credit Union and the East Cambridge Savings Bank organizations rooted in the Portuguese Community.
